Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am very excited to be teaching your child this year. We are going to experience a year full of learning and fun. I have planned many activities that they will enjoy. Some will be harder than others, but we will work together in order to achieve goals.
I believe that it is very important for parents to be actively involved in their child’s education. Please take a little time each day to ask your child about what we are learning. I will be sending home a daily planner. This planner will inform you of what we are learning, test dates, behavior, and important dates of school events and upcoming projects. I am also working on a website to help keep you better informed, to make contact more readily accessible, and to provide additional fun with learning. However, until the website is up and running, the daily planner will serve as our primary communication tool between home and school. Therefore, I urge you to read his/her planner daily. Students will be required to have this planner signed daily. I will also be sending home folders with graded papers biweekly to be signed and returned. The papers with clipped corners indicate test papers, which combined with notebooks, AR, an essay, and two group projects, make up 50% of your child’s grade. I would like for you to sign and return all of the clipped cornered papers. Sending folders home will keep you abreast of how your child is doing, what he/she needs to work on at home, and to notify me that you are aware of your child’s work. It is very important that your child keep up with this folder since it will be used all semester.
All class assignments must be turned in by 3:00 daily. Every student will have plenty of time each day to complete their work at school if they use their time wisely. Examples of homework that will be given are studying for a test, completing study guides, and reading AR books. Each student will be given individual reading goals. Consequently, each student will be required to take an Accelerated Reader test every two weeks. Students that reach academic and behavioral goals will be rewarded.
To make sure that every child has an enjoyable experience in the tenth grade, there are rules that must be followed. Please review the Code of Conduct and the Luverne High School Handbook with your child. Classroom rules are based on the rules in these books.
There are consequences for everything we do, good or bad. Student behavior will be monitored on a daily basis. Students exhibiting good behavior will be rewarded. However, consequences will be enforced for students exhibiting poor behavior. Consequences may include: silent lunch, loss of break time, written assignments, signing a pink slip, or office referral.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. My phone # is 334-335-3331, and my email address is [email protected]. I truly believe it is important for your child to see their parents and teacher working together for their benefit. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support. I really look forward to a wonderful year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nearor
